Today the Braintree Police Department was visited by Stacey Ober of the AKC and Linda Flynn from the South Shore Kennel Club. As you can imagine, these groups work tirelessly in their efforts to protect all members of the K9 family. In the aftermath of the tragedy on June 4, 2021, the Braintree Police Working Dog Foundation was awarded a grant from the AKC’s Canine Support and Relief Fund. AKC Reunite works with AKC Clubs to donate K9 police dogs to police departments around the United States. The funds will go towards purchasing a police K9 in the future. A big thank you to the AKC and South Shore Kennel Club!
These two groups are also staunch advocates of Nero’s Law. (HB 2547 and SB 1606) Unfortunately, the bill has not yet moved from the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security. A hearing was held on July 14, 2021, and we are all anxiously awaiting a favorable recommendation so that this bill can move through the legislative process.
