Board of Assessors

Overview

The Board of Assessors shall consist of three members, all of whom shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the review of the Town Council. The Mayor shall designate one member to serve as the Chair of the Board, and the members shall elect a Vice Chair and Clerk. 

The Board of Assessors shall, annually and in accordance with the General Laws and the recommendations of the Department of Revenue, make a fair cash valuation of all of the estate, both real and personal, subject to taxation within the Town. They shall also annually provide to the Mayor and Town Hall its recommendations regarding the percentage of the local tax levy to be borne by each class of property, as well as determine the annual tax rate necessary to meet all sums voted by the Town.
